Rick and Morty Season 6, Episode 3 is named “Bethic Twinstinct,” and like the title suggests it was an intensely Beth focused episode as the two Beths figured out how into one another they truly are. This sparked an exceptionally profound and physical fling between both of them, and according to essayist Anne Path, series co-maker Dan Harmon, and showrunner Scott Marder in a special Inside the Episode segment released by Grown-up Swim, it’s really a psychological jump into how Beth’s personality continues to develop and cherish herself in general person.
As episode author Anne Path explains, “Bethic Twinstinct” is an episode about self-investigation for Beth, and the aversion of that by the rest of the family. Following Path proposing that the two Beths would be into one another, Harmon explains that it checked out as a narcissistic component, yet in addition seemed OK on the more deeply level of Beth learning to cherish herself as a person. It’s the kind of potential the team needed to investigate with Beth as she’s not just practical and realizes the constraints of her ongoing life, yet additionally like Rick has an exceptionally high opinion of herself.
It’s that disconnect Beth has been facing since the third season of the series, and with this showdown of her clone head on leading to an all out romance, it’s sort of like Beth learning to cherish and acknowledge this large number of sides of herself in the process. And how it continues to change her relationship with Jerry meanwhile, it’s almost a considerably better version of the marriage that the two have had through the seasons so far.
