Why Marvel's New Fantastic Four Cast Wasn't Announced At D23

Following the massive San Diego Comic-Con board that Marvel had, many were trusting the cherished organization would uncover the cast for Fantastic Four at D23 Exhibition. D23 is, in some ways, Comic-Con 2.0. It’s a Disney-centric event that allows the entertainment giant to dump news, trailers, and other goodies about its impending projects on to people in general and basically dominate the internet for an entire day. Many had high hopes for this event as Marvel dropped nonstop bombshells at San Diego Comic-Con and it was intensely reputed that D23 would sustain that momentum, but it wasn’t quite as large. That’s not to say D23 wasn’t loaded up with great announcements and trailers, but it wasn’t stunning.
One of the main reasons for this is because there were lots of rumors that indicated Marvel would reveal the cast of Fantastic Four at D23. Sadly, the main thing we got was confirmation that Matt Shakman is directing the movie, something that was essentially an inescapable outcome at this point. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige noted that Shakman was not present for D23 as they had nothing else to share at this time. As per Cutoff time reporter Justin Kroll, Kevin Feige reportedly doesn’t want to settle on large casting choices without input from a director and it’s improbable Shakman would have a cast yet because of the fact he’s an exceptionally recent addition. With that said, it’s probably going to be some time. We still have another San Diego Comic-Con and D23 event previously or around the time Fantastic Four will start shooting and it’s probably we’ll need to wait until then to hear more.

So there were all these rumors leading up to D23 of a cast reveal and going forward here some ways to temper expectations. Feige for the most part, does not want to make big casting decisions without getting input from his director. https://t.co/t3RzfGoCbC

Of course, fans were a bit frustrated by this and took to Twitter to express their confusion and disappointment. It seems like fan castings will continue for the foreseeable future, unless Marvel has a different event arranged soon. Either way, at least the team behind the film is taking its time to track down actors for Marvel’s first family.

At this point I kind of hope Marvel just never announces the cast of Fantastic Four. Run the posters with black silhouetttes. Air the trailers with them CGIed out. Let the internet tear itself apart. pic.twitter.com/QVR7oCCrUK
